They’re great people, they love bicycles, and they make a great durable product. As far as the experience of buying from Bike Friday, I can only say enthusiastic things. Truth: My fantasy next BF bike is a Pocket Crusoe with disc brakes as on the Pocket Llama. That would add a bit of weight and make the bike less racy, but in the end the bike would be more versatile for months on the road. But if I were having Bike Friday build me a bicycle primarily for touring, I’d have them do something else like build a bike with disk brakes and clearance for fatter tires. I’m all for that, if that’s what you have. It’s basically touring on a high end road bike. Now, I’m not sure I’d say it’s the ideal model in their lineup for touring. Plenty of people use their folding rack, though, and the PRP has the proper eyelets for it. As you may have noticed, I used a custom rear rack built for my bike by Rob English custom bicycles.

My Pocket Rocket Pro certainly is a capable tourer: it is light, fast, absurdly easy to pack quickly into a small package, and the small rear triangle makes it plenty stiff for carrying panniers without distracting flex. The drivers, alas, were the least friendly that I’ve ever encountered, but that was more than made up for by the landscapes and friendly folks (they appear to be magically transformed when they exit their cars). I found New Zealand to be a terrific place. It’s funny how while on a tour - and I experience it every time - some portion of it is spent thinking about the next one.
